I AM PROUD TO SERVE VERMONT AND VERMONTERS AS THEIR ATTORNEY GENERAL

One year ago, I was honored to be sworn in as the first woman elected Vermont Attorney General. One year after our historic election, I have been hard at work accomplishing as much as possible for Vermonters – but there is work to be done.

Data privacy and social media. Our office sued Meta and launched an investigation into TikTok over their harm to children, and I have continued to champion a comprehensive data privacy bill – that’s now on its way to becoming law.

Abortion rights. I have taken every opportunity to support our right to abortion, suing the FDA to make access to medication abortion more accessible and defending a lawsuit against the State over a new law requiring crisis pregnancy centers to be truthful.

Addressing domestic violence. My office successfully advocated for improvements to law and policy to protect victims of domestic violence by elevating the voices of stakeholders who have fought for years for progress.

Public safety and criminal records sealing law. I have prioritized public safety, prosecuting violent crimes and sexual crimes against children. And I advocated for passage of a criminal records sealing bill to allow people with old criminal records to have them sealed – and that bill is now on its way to becoming law.

Holding Monsanto accountable for PCB contamination. We sued Monsanto for contaminating Vermont’s water resources and schools with PCBs. I have also joined numerous national efforts to preserve our natural environment and I intend for environmental work to be part of my legacy as Attorney General.

Recouping Motel Program Deposits. We negotiated for the return of security deposits for participants of Vermont’s “motel program,” totaling $310,000 for formerly houseless Vermonters.

Suicide prevention bill. My testimony in the Legislature was critical in passing important legislation, including the firearm suicide prevention bill. I am now defending a lawsuit attempting to derail the progress Vermont has made on gun safety.

Fighting scams. I have used my platform for scam awareness, pushing out scam alerts, making TV appearances, speaking at conferences, and posting frequently on social media to help Vermonters stay safe from scammers trying to steal our money.

I hope that I have demonstrated my deep commitment to the state that raised me. I know there is more work to be done and I will continue fighting for Vermont and Vermonters.
